29 Things I’ve Learned from 29 Years of Life

I turned 29 about two weeks ago now, and since then I’ve done a lot of reflecting on what my life has looked like so far and all of the things I’ve experienced. So far throughout my 20’s there have been a LOT of experiences, good, bad, and everything in between. I’ve learned SO much, I’ve tried so many new things, traveled to so many places I never dreamed of travelling to, and have become a person that I didn’t even realize I wanted to be. If you would have asked me 10 years ago what kind of person I thought I would be as a 29 year old, it would be completely different and honestly a lot more lame 😂 than the person I turned out to be.

Though my learnings of my 20’s are not over yet, here are 29 things that I’ve learned so far that are worth noting to anyone else currently living out their 20’s.

29 Things I’ve Learned in Life as a 29 Year Old

  1. Life moves faster as you get older.
  2. You don’t need as much as you think you do.
  3. You need to breathe fresh air every day.
  4. A clean home is a healthy home (messy doesn’t count).
  5. Your 20’s are for fucking up, so fuck up a lot.
  6. Reading is superior to screen time.
  7. Contrary to societal beliefs, being busy does not equate to success.
  8. Being an outfit repeater is cool.
  9. Take care of your body more than you think you need to.
  10. If you feel overwhelmed, walk around the block and I promise you’ll feel better.
  11. Spend time with the elderly people in your life, because you can never have enough time with someone.
  12. Listening is one of the best ways to be a good friend.
  13. You don’t find time, you make time.
  14. It’s okay to ask for what you want in life.
  15. Celebrate everything, even the little things.
  16. ^On this note, ESPECIALLY celebrate your friends going through solo celebrations (Quitting a toxic job, graduating with a degree, starting a business, etc.)
  17. Setting rules for yourself makes you a more whole person.
  18. Life is supposed to be a little uncomfortable.
  19. Logistics can be emailed, emotions should be handled over the phone.
  20. It’s never too late to pivot.
  21. Every decision you make is political, so use that knowledge to free your conscience rather than seeing it as a constraint.
  22. (For non-essential purchases) Wait 48 hours before making any purchase over $10, wait a week before making any purchase over $20, wait a month before making any purchases over $100.
  23. The world is abundant, contrary to what capitalism would like you to think.
  24. It’s okay to not be okay for a while.
  25. Sometimes it’s better to take the long way home.
  26. Talking to strangers is one of the best ways to enrich your life.
  27. Libraries are the best place on earth.
  28. Food is better when enjoyed with friends.
  29. Time is the most important form of currency.

I’m SO excited to be in my 29th year of living, and I cannot wait to see where this year takes me. I have a VERY good feeling about everything that is to come and I am so grateful to have you on this journey with me.
